When we take on a new client – or when a business just wants to know where they stand – we start with an IT health check. Not a sales pitch dressed as an assessment. A real, documented evaluation of your technology environment: what’s working, what’s at risk, and what needs attention.
Here’s what we look at.
Infrastructure Assessment
Network
- Internet speed vs. what you’re paying for (are you getting what’s promised?)
- WiFi coverage mapping (dead zones, weak signal areas)
- Switch and router age, firmware version, and configuration
- Network segmentation (is guest WiFi isolated from business? Are IoT devices segmented?)
- Firewall configuration and rule review
- DNS configuration and filtering status
Hardware Inventory
- Every computer, server, and device cataloged
- Age and warranty status of each device
- Hardware health (disk SMART data, battery condition)
- Performance metrics (is hardware adequate for workload?)
- End-of-life devices flagged for replacement planning
Software
- Operating system versions (are they current? Supported?)
- Application inventory (what’s installed across all machines)
- Patch status (how many updates are pending?)
- License compliance (are you properly licensed?)
- Unauthorized software detection
Security Assessment
- MFA status (enabled? Enforced? On which systems?)
- Endpoint protection coverage (is every device protected?)
- Email security configuration (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, filtering policies)
- Password policies (complexity, rotation, shared accounts)
- Admin account inventory (who has elevated access?)
- Former employee access audit (are old accounts still active?)
- Backup status (running? Tested? Offsite?)
- Encryption status (full disk encryption on all devices?)
Cloud Environment
- Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace security settings review
- License utilization (are you paying for unused licenses?)
- Sharing policies (is data being shared externally inappropriately?)
- Third-party app access (what apps have OAuth access to your data?)
- Retention and backup policies
Compliance Readiness
- Gap analysis against relevant frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, CMMC)
- Documentation status (do policies and procedures exist?)
- Training records
- Incident response plan
What You Get
A documented report with:
- Current state – What’s in place today, clearly documented
- Risk items – What’s vulnerable, ranked by severity
- Recommendations – Specific, prioritized actions with estimated effort
- Roadmap – Suggested timeline for addressing gaps
No pressure to sign up for anything. The health check tells you where you stand. What you do with it is up to you – though most businesses that see the results want the gaps fixed.
